Children have many more opportunities than us. They can dream. And their dreams are the most pure and decent creations that can exist in this world. But the thing that often comes to my grown up mind in my busy bordered life is the following: is there at least one children career dream that has come true? Do you remember this wonderful question: “What are you going to be when you grow up?” It was like an open door to the world of wonderful opportunities and imagination.
Girls usually dreamt of the following.
“I will be a ballet dancer”. This seems to be the perfect way to spend our lives. Ballet dancers seemed to be magical in their light soft dresses, so subtle and delicate… The career of the whole life, the overall obsession.
“I want to be a doctor”. Many little girls carried very difficult operations on their stuffed animals and even relatives. They were quite ready for the medical career.
“I want to be a singer”. Looking at the beautiful girls singing wonderful songs on TV with all their fans, who could resist the desire to have the same destiny? None of us could.
“I will be an actress”. The same thing as with the singer. The life of an actress is so joyful and full of entertainment!
“I want to become a teacher”. This is the desire of most girls to be a dominant person, we all think that we know something that no one else knows. I’m sure you can remember teaching smaller kids in the kindergarten!
Boys were no less elaborate in the questions of career choosing.
“I will be a firefighter”. Oh yes, these men are heroes in everybody’s eyes and little boys wanted a bit of this fame too.
“I want to be a policeman”. Fighting the criminality, what can be more noble? Nothing. That’s why many boys wanted to work as a simple policeman, but the highest dream was to be a detective, because there can be no more interesting work than investigating a complicated crime.
“I will be a famous football/basketball player/boxer”. It’s the matter of idols. Men try to get their sons used to sports from the early childhood. There come s the time when boys really get idols. And it’s absolutely logical to get a desire to be like your favorite sportsman.
“Astronaut, I will be the astronaut”. There are no more romantic and fantastic stories than those about the space traveling. It’s both the courage of the explorer and the fame of the space traveler that attracted boys to this kind of career since the moment people first launched the ship to the space. Probably, this can be called the most amazing dream of the childhood ever.
I’m sure that many of you have just found yourself among the enlisted variants. But maybe I’m missing something. So, what were you going to become when you were a child? Share with me!
